About the University of Okara
The University of Okara (UO), located in Renala Khurd, Okara, Punjab, Pakistan, is a public university known for its commitment to excellence in higher education. The university offers a range of undergraduate and graduate degree programs across various faculties, including computing, management and social sciences, life sciences, sciences, education, and health sciences.
History
The origins of the University of Okara can be traced back to 2005 when it was established as the Okara campus of the University of Education, Lahore. The campus was inaugurated by Rao Sikandar Iqbal, the then Minister of Defence for Pakistan. On February 23, 2016, the Provincial Assembly of Punjab passed the ‘University of Okara Bill 2016’, leading to the elevation of the campus to the status of a full-fledged the university. The Government of Punjab officially recognized the university on April 1, 2016.
The university has since grown to accommodate approximately 21,000 students and is situated on a rural campus spanning 205 acres. It is accredited by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan and continues to expand its academic and research activities.
