About Fatima Jinnah Women’s University Rawalpindi
Fatima Jinnah Women’s University (FJWU) is situated in the historic Old Presidency building at the heart of Rawalpindi Cantonment, symbolizing a rich heritage intertwined with women’s education. Originally built as a residence, the Victorian-style building served as the Presidency of Pakistan before its transformation into a university. Inaugurated on August 6, 1998, by former Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, FJWU stands as a testament to the nation’s commitment to women’s education, uniquely funded by the Punjab Government.
History
Established in 1998, FJWU began classes on December 28, 1998, with its first batch graduating in September 2001. The university has welcomed students from across Pakistan, including distant regions like Balochistan, Southern Punjab, and Sindh. Over the years, FJWU has awarded degrees to more than 4362 students, facilitating their employment in various organizations worldwide. Notably, women working at FJWU have played pivotal roles in higher education management and curriculum development, fostering collaborations with women’s institutions globally to enhance students’ international training opportunities.
