A prominent Hindu political leader of Punjab conceived Gulab Devi Hospital in 1928 to perpetuate the memories of his beloved mother, Gulab Devi. In 2004, they established Gulab Devi Postgraduate Medical Institute, which gained affiliation with the University of Health Sciences (UHS) Lahore.
