Khyber Medical College, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s first medical college, was established on 2.5.1954. The establishment of a Teaching Hospital was required to meet the standards of the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council. Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar was the first. For this reason, the District Headquarters Hospital was used. However, the necessity for a purpose-built teaching hospital near the College was recognized much earlier.

The idea for such a hospital was conceived in 1958, and it was realized on November 30, 1967, when General Mohammad Musa, Governor of West Pakistan, laid the foundation stone of Khyber Teaching Hospital (then known as Ayub Teaching Hospital). Khyber College of Dentistry was established in 1964 as a department of Dentistry. In 1990, it was elevated from the rank of a department of Khyber Medical College.

Dr. Ahmad Iqbal was named the Khyber College of Dentistry’s first Chairman and Principal. The first class graduated in 1968, and the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council recognized the B.D.S degree in November of that year.
